My most frequent, yet still awkward conversation. In fact, I just had this conversation 3 times today:
Hi. I’m Lauren. Good to meet you. Have you met my son, Jack? Wave hi, Jackabee. Good boy. He’s learned to do that within the last couple of months…Yeah, I think it’s amazing how these kids grow so fast, too. So, what do you do? Really? Uh-huh. Oh, that’s cool. Oh, my turn, huh? Well, at the moment, I’m a stay-at-home mom. But I used to teach yoga, and I’ll probably do that again when Jack gets a little older. What’s that? Yes, I like yoga a lot. But I like being with Jack more. Um-hm. I like music and traveling and stuff, too. Where am I from? Just north of Dallas? My husband and I graduated from school there and bought a house just before Jack was born. Where’s my husband? Oh, um, no, he isn’t here… Uh…well actually, he died a few months ago. Yes, thanks for your condolences. Oh, yeah…it’s been hard (that’s kind of an understatement…but…um). How did it happen? Well, we went up to visit his family in Oregon for Thanksgiving last year, and he went fishing with a friend. The boat capsized into really cold water…and, um, well, he drowned. Yeah, I’m sorry, too. Yes, God does have a reason for these things. Thank you… Okay, well, nice talking to you. Okay. You too. Have a good one. God bless you, too.

Meet me doing what I love to do most–spend time with my chillun:

Meet Jackman (even though he’s in the other picture, too), doing what he does best– be the joy of my life:

Even though he isn’t physically present with us, meet Nathan, doing what he did best– love me and our chillun:

And there’s us for ya.

Lauren – I’ve been reading your words for a bit now and love hearing your truth. I noticed a picture on your beautiful “Him” page that looked familiar. Did Jean Sala deliver Jack? I had my Sophie at Inanna in August and thought I recognized the bed. Sending warm thoughts and blessings to you and your family from a friend in North Texas.

I am in tears reading your blog. I found it through a friend who had linked to your site about dealing with grief. I am so encouraged by your dependence on our great God and Savior. I too have a little boy and loved seeing pictures of your Jack! He is precious. A verse came to mind as I was just reading this page…Psalm 34:18. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, he saves those who are crushed in spirit. ” I will pray that He blesses you beyond belief today.

Lauren, I don’t know what to say because I have never walked in your shoes. I am however so grateful that you have the Lord and that beautiful boy to carry on his daddy’s name.
